Pedda karma catering

Brahmana bhojanam and family meals for the Pedda Karma, cooked in madi to shraddha rules and ready the moment the purohit needs them.

Dasha dina karma specialists

The most important meal of the karma days

On the Pedda Karma, the bhoktas who are fed stand in for the departed. The food has to be correct in every detail — and ready exactly when the rites call for it.

For 18+ years we have cooked for these rites across Hyderabad. We know the shraddha menu, the madi that must be kept from the first chop, and the order in which the purohit will need things. You will not have to explain any of it.

Whether the rites are held at home, at a relative's house or at a karma hall, our cooks come to you — or we cook in our kitchen and deliver on time.

What we cook for on the day

The kitchen serves three needs on the Pedda Karma. We take care of all of them.

For the rites

Cooked rice and any items the purohit needs from the kitchen, prepared first in madi and kept untouched.

For the bhoktas

The full shraddha leaf for the brahmana bhojanam, served in the traditional order at the right moment.

For the family

A meal for the family and relatives once the rites are complete, cooked to the same rules.

We work to the purohit's clock

Karma rites run to a fixed order. With your permission, we speak to your purohit before the day so the kitchen is always one step ahead of the ritual.

The day and form of the Pedda Karma differ between families and sampradayams. We follow your purohit's instructions.
  1. The day before

    We speak to the purohit

Items needed for the rites, the number of bhoktas and the time the meal must be ready are all confirmed.

  2. Early morning

    Cooks arrive in madi

At your home, the relative's house or the karma hall — with fresh groceries, vessels and a stove.

  3. As the rites begin

    Ritual items ready first

Everything the purohit needs from the kitchen is prepared before anything else and kept separate.

  4. When the purohit calls for it

    Brahmana bhojanam served

The bhoktas are served the full shraddha leaf in the traditional order, and looked after until they finish.

  5. After the rites

    Family meal, then clean-up

The family and relatives eat, and we clear the kitchen and cooking area before we leave.

A typical Pedda Karma menu for the bhoktas. It is fuller than a masikam leaf, and is always finalised with you and your purohit.

Cooked without onion, garlic, tomato or any item not used in shraddha. Your family's own list of allowed vegetables always comes first.

Pedda Karma is the name many Telugu families use for the major rites of the karma days, usually performed around the 11th and 12th day, including Sapindikarana. Bhoktas are fed with a full shraddha meal as part of the ritual. The exact day and form follow your family's custom and your purohit.

We cook for any number of bhoktas the purohit asks for, together with the family and relatives — up to 50 people in total.

Yes. With your permission we speak to the purohit directly to confirm the items needed for the ritual, the number of bhoktas and the exact time the meal must be ready.

It follows the same shraddha rules — no onion, garlic, tomato or other items not used in shraddha — but is usually fuller, with more kooralu and bhakshyalu. The final menu is set with you and your purohit.

Yes. Karma rites are often done at home, at a relative's place or at a karma hall. Our cooks can come to any of these, or we can cook in our kitchen and deliver.
